Background:Diflucan is an oral, once-daily antibiotic used for the treatment of a variety of fungal infections, including infections of the skin, urinary tract, and gastrointestinal tracts, which are often resistant to other treatments. This review will focus on the mechanism of action, effectiveness, side effects, and drug interactions of fluconazole, a well-known antibacterial agent used for the treatment of infections in adults and children. This review will focus on the effects of fluconazole, and the side effects associated with this medication.
Methods:Data on the pharmacokinetic properties of fluconazole in mice were collected during the period 2003-2004 (N=32), including a single oral dose of 10 mg/kg body weight, and a single oral dose of 10 mg/kg body weight. The pharmacokinetic parameters of fluconazole were determined using a validated bioequivalence method, and the area under the drug concentration curve (AUC) from the first to the fifth day after oral administration was also calculated.
Results:The mean AUC (Cmax) of fluconazole was significantly lower than the oral dose in both groups (p<0.05). The mean Cmax of fluconazole was 1.23 ±0.07 mg/mL in the 10 mg/kg group and 3.78 ±0.12 mg/mL in the 10 mg/kg group, respectively. The Cmax values of the 10 mg/kg group and the 10 mg/kg group were lower than those of the other three groups (p<0.05). The AUC values of the 10 mg/kg group and the 10 mg/kg group were higher than those of the other three groups, and there were no significant differences between the groups. These results suggest that fluconazole can effectively treat fungal infections, but there are no significant differences between the two groups.
Conclusion:Fluconazole was able to significantly reduce the AUC and Cmax values of fluconazole, as well as the AUC and Cmax of the 10 mg/kg group. The mean AUC values of the 10 mg/kg group and the 10 mg/kg group were higher than those of the other three groups, and there were no significant differences between the groups. These findings suggest that the mechanism of action of fluconazole is related to its ability to inhibit the production of proteins involved in fungal cell proliferation.
